6/17, Saturday, 7 pm: VERBAL EVENTS, "A Tribute to William
Stafford," followed
by an open mike; at Avol's Bookstore. Featured readers are Jean Connor,
Francine Sterle, Helen Ruggieri, Emma Lou Thayne, Joanne Hart, Beth
Wellington, Skip Renker, and R. Virgil Ellis. They are in town for a reunion
of their 1985 residence with William Stafford at the Atlantic Center of the
Arts in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. After the residency they named themselves
after Stafford's dictum that "a good poem should have early and frequent
verbal events." Open mike poets are asked to read no more than two or three
poems and to comment briefly on Stafford's contribution.
