Lunar Crescent Wrench
presents more of The Chamber Rock Ensemble's unique blend of
original spoken poetry integrated with fusion jazz/rock. Also published in
England by Sow's Ear magazine. The depth and range of the work
increases; there is more complexity in some pieces and austere simplicity in
others. Produced by Al Jewer of Laughing Cat Studio, it features brilliant
flute work by Al Jewer and Tobin Wingard, and the vocal wizardry of Zazu.
Two pieces are live from the New York tour Al and R. Virgil undertook in
1987. All the texts are performed by Ellis.
"Five Haiku" - Strict
classical haiku form. Performed live on tour, with Al Jewer's fine work on
various flutes.
"By the Light" - Ken Wilber would
enjoy this fusion of physics and mysticism. Tobin Wingard, flute; Al Jewer
bass, Gary Lyons, drums.
"Macadamia Nut" - Inspired by Alvin
Lucier. Recorded live at the world premiere. Score by Al Jewer. Features the
University of Wisconsin (Whitewater) flute choir, Dr. Robert K. Webb
conducting.
"Lunar Crescent Wrench" - Play it
now!!! Cosmic discontent and yet celebration. Jeff Lundgren, guitar; Al
Jewer, sax; Gary Lyons, drums; Rob Hecimovich, bass.
"Murphy's Blues" - Brilliant solo
work. Jay Craggs, guitar; Jeff Lundgren, bass; Al Jewer, lyricon and drum
programming.
"Anything" - Distilled Zen. Virgil
Ron's vocal rhythm track used a Macintosh computer to create a complex
texture of words. Al plays synthesizer and flute. Tech guru Dennis Adams
programmed the sounds.
"Come Again" - Kundalini fire and
water with Jeff Lundgren, guitar; Gary Lyons, drums; Rob Hecimovich, bass;
Al Jewer, sax and flute.
"Parallel Interface" - A high-tech
dilemma symbolic of an all-too-human situation. Another live recording from
the New York tour.
"Canto 40" - The music of flies
humming. From Virgil Ron's series of 100 cantos. With Al Jewer's special
bass harmonics.
"Open My Eyes" - A hypnotic reprise
from the original Open My Eyes album. Multiple tracks and overdubs provide
the mantra drone.
"Invocation" - Free improv by the
Madison vocal group Zazu.
"Meditation for Alison" - An extended
introspective piece written by Al Jewer for his wife. A rich interweaving of
all of Al's arsenal of flutes and synthesizers.
