HIGHLIGHTS

Fuzzy Logic was founded by Wisconsin poet R. Virgil (Ron) Ellis in 1995 in order to explore the multimedia dimensions of poetry. Text, music, and at times video are fused in exciting, sometimes strange, ways that propel audiences to fresh insights.

Biff Blumfumgagnge contributes arcane and uncanny musical resources in relation to this poetry. An accomplished violinist, Biff also works with samplers, treated guitar, balalaika, theremin-violin, synth-mandolin and peculiar combinations of percussion and recorded sounds. After world tours with Willy Porter and Adrian Belew and gigs from Turkey to Italy, Blumfumgagnge was awarded "1998 Best Instrumentalist-Strings" by the Wisconsin Area Music Industry (WAMI). He currently appears in the Reptile Palace Orchestra, the Gomers, Jambeau, Fuzzy Logic and Yammer (formerly Swamp Thing). Keep up with Biff at  http://beeftone.com.

Tom Hamer, drums and percussion. Tom has performed on stages around the Madison, WI area with various rock and new music groups including Vortex, Zonk, Dangerous Odds, Tap-It Dance and Theatrical Co., The Romulans and Station Wagon. He plays a mix of drum set and MIDI  electronics, various 'found' objects and little instuments. Other performance-related activities include sound design for theater (notably 6 seasons for the Madison Rep), live sound mixing, recording and CD mastering. He currently provides the rhythms for Fuzzy Logic and is an active participant in The Vortex group at Mother Fools in Madison. Note Tom's new site at http://hamer.mad-host.com.

William Stafford, famous poet and Poet Laureate of the U.S. before his death in 1995, wrote the foreword to R. Virgil (Ron) Ellis’ first book of poems, The Blue Train. Another volume, The Tenting Cantos, can be sampled at http://www.poetrvellis.com. He has recently placed poems with New Works Review, new digressions, Recursive Angel (http://www.recursiveangel.com/ellis.htm), and Mississippi Review Web (http://sushi.st.usm.edu/mrw). Albums of his performance poetry include Open My Eyes, Lunar Crescent Wrench, and Dangerous Odds. Open My Eyes was favorably reviewed in The Village Voice and has been aired on National Public Radio and on WNYC. He has often given performances on Wisconsin Public Radio's "Hotel Milwaukee." His work with Fuzzy Logic and other groups has often been broadcast over WORT in Madison.

TRANS: A VISUAL CULTURE CONFERENCE
FUZZY LOGIC AT THE VISUALIZING TRANS EXHIBITION Madison
 MONDAY OCTOBER 23 2006 8 PM

ALSO FUZZY LOGIC AT HIGH NOON SALOON
 SUNDAY OCTOBER 23 2006 2 PM

"After seeing you all perform in the context of an art exhibition in an alternative space, I would say that Fuzzy Logic takes its work far beyond the realm of a dry, quiet poetry reading or a mere jam band session--the synthesis of spoken word, music, and imagery catapults Fuzzy Logic into a whole different realm of performance and allows them to be a truly transdiscipline, transmedium, transart group! A full-on TRANS experience!! The performance exceeded all of my expectations in terms of fitting with the TRANS theme of the show; really, the group in performance encompasses the spirit and definition of trans that we were trying to visually represent in that space."

--Beth Zinsli, Curator, Visualizing Trans Exhibition

"With a layered collage of words and sounds,  the art of 'Fuzzy Logic' is at once mystical and edged.  Meanings, sharply clarified, float and then blend on shimmering ponds of music.   A wonderful eclectic...electric...experience!"  --Annie Randall, Village Booksmith, Baraboo

PERFORMING AT THE EPIDEMIC PEACE IMAGERY EXHIBIT AT THE Madison Center for Creative and Cultural Arts MADISON, WISCONSIN Saturday June 11 2005

Fuzzy Logic combines dada-esque, improvisational sounds with a contemporary poetic sensibility, and tops it off with video imagery that is occasionally reminiscent of a Sixties Happening. In "The Demons of Association," Ellis opines:
once you let loose the demons of association
there’s no telling what might pop-fly flea-bite phlebitis
St. Vitus dance your way outa this one

No fear. These are the purposeful ambiguities of Fuzzy Logic, intended to engage audience members and lead them to a satisfying conclusion. —Ron Czerwien, Avol's Bookstore, Madison

Fuzzy Logic will lead you to the 10 most wanted elements in the universe, help you leap tall buildings and keep bounding, immerse you in chaos and the depravity of our time, and suggest how you can transcend today’ s political landfill and reach for nirvana, all in one evening. Subversion guaranteed! —Richard Roe, poet, Madison
