Egg of the Universe
In the beginning there was darkness
everywhere, and Chaos ruled.
Primordial sound plays a crucial role in
the origin of all structure – without it
there would be no galaxies, stars, planets or people.
Within the darkness there formed an egg, and inside
the egg the giant, Pangu, came into being.
Let's
zero in on some of the more
overtly acoustic aspects of the story.
For eons, safely inside the egg, Pangu slept and grew.
These
patches are (mostly) peaks and troughs
of sound waves moving through the hot glowing gas.
When he had grown to gigantic size he stretched
his huge limbs and in so doing broke the egg...
